If it’s version gets too far behind, it might not be able to work with the service back at home base. If there are no updates pending, simply uninstalling and reinstalling the app can do the trick. In a second or two your .kap file will be available on your hard drive. Copy the file (or files) to your OpenCPN chart directory (go to Settings/Charts to find the directories OpenCPN is using).

At some point the case was changed to lower and I couldn't get it to work. After much struggle I found the problem and got a script that converted the whole structure (>8000 files) to uppercase. Our experience is that is is easiest to have a directory containing all your chart bundles, BUT register each bundles directory separately. Then you can rebuild the database partly, change a single bundle etc. Alternative MBTiles are better than KAP …
